the power of words

communication is a vital component of life. normally, communication is composed of both "verbal" and "nonverbal" communication. separately, each component is crucial in the success of a conversation. recently, i have been thinking about words, the power they have have, and the power individuals have in speaking with words. words are often spoken without thought, yet remembered so well. the words we say, how we say them, when we say them, and why we say them are all factors that should be taken into serious consideration. i am guilty of speaking without thinking. words cannot be taken back, they become part of who we are. people remember us for what we say. as i have pondered this, i have come to the realization that i must take extreme care in my manner of speech. mouths that praise are the same mouths that condemn and speak harsh, cutting words. the power that words carry is underestimated. what can we do? first, realize that everyone is a son or daughter of God. a brother or sister of ours. He loves each of His children, we should follow this example. Before we speak, let us think of how we can edify those to whom we are addressing. jeffrey r. holland of the quorum of the twelve apostles gives great advice and encouragement. his talk is entitled the tongue of angels. i highly encourage everyone to read and ponder and practice what he counsels. i know i have benefited from his remarks and i know i must continue to speak with the tongue of angels.
